Forensics

Saint James the Apostle School is a member of the Union County Catholic Schools League of Forensics (UCCSLF). Students in fifth through eighth grade are eligible to compete. There are three competitions a year in three different categories: Reading, Declamation and Duo.

Reading – an individual competition where the student is required to read a selection from prose or poetry

Declamation – an individual competition where the student is required to memorize and present a selection from a speech that was previously delivered in public

Duo – a paired competition where two students are required to memorize and present a selection from a written work that is either dramatic or humorous

In addition to competing, Saint James the Apostle School acts as “Host” school where our students get involved as volunteers to greet guests, time selections, run scores, help with hospitality and clean up.

As a member of the UCCSLF, we are invited to compete at several area high school events throughout the year.  Saint James the Apostle School competes regularly in the Union Catholic High School competition held in May.  We also participate in the Mount Saint Mary Academy competition.
